Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) is a distinguished Institution of National Importance under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Established in 1980s, the institute has pioneered the integration of medicine and technology, earning widespread recognition across India. The institute operates through three specialized wings:
A Tertiary referral super-specialty hospital.- The hospital, with a capacity of 253 beds, functions as a tertiary referral center specializing in cardiovascular, thoracic, and neurological diseases. Staffed by a highly qualified team of doctors, nurses, and paramedical professionals, the hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities across its various departments. It offers advanced diagnostic and treatment services supported by cutting-edge and sophisticated equipment
A Biomedical technology wing.- The Biomedical Technology Wing (BMT Wing), located at the historic Satelmond Palace in Poojappura, Trivandrum, is home to a diverse and multidisciplinary team dedicated to advancing medical device development, research, and education. The wing's core activities encompass a wide range of areas, including medical devices, biomaterials, biocompatibility, tissue engineering, product incubation, and commercialization.
The Achutha Menon Centre for Health Science Studies.- The Achutha Menon Centre for Health Science Studies (AMCHSS) is renowned as a center of excellence in public health. The center emphasizes research in key areas such as non-communicable diseases, gender and health, health policy, and management. AMCHSS offers a range of academic programs, including a Master of Public Health (MPH), Diploma in Public Health (DPH), PhD, as well as various diploma and short courses in public health.
SCTIMST is prominent for its expertise in advanced treatments for cardiac and neurological disorders, the indigenous development of biomedical devices and materials, and its focus on public health training and research. The institute employs cutting-edge technologies for specialized procedures, including interventional radiology, cardiac electrophysiology, deep brain stimulation for movement disorders, epilepsy surgery, pediatric cardiac surgery, and complex base-of-skull and vascular surgeries, among others.

Key Features of KASP – PMJAY
Health care scheme fully financed by the government.
It provides a cover of Rs. 5 lakhs per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization across public and private empaneled hospitals.
KASP – PMJAY provides cashless access to health care services for the beneficiary at the point of service, that is, the hospital.
KASP – PMJAY envisions helping mitigate catastrophic expenditure on medical treatment.
There is no restriction on the family size, age or gender.
All pre-existing conditions are covered from day one.
Benefits of the scheme are portable across the country i.e. a beneficiary can visit any empanelled public or private hospital in India to avail cashless treatment.
Services include approximately 1,573 procedures covering all the costs related to treatment, including but not limited to drugs, supplies, physician’s fees, room charges, surgeon charges, OT and ICU charges etc.
